Moro, or the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), is a rebel group based in the southern Philippines. The organization was formed in 1977 with the aim of establishing an independent Islamic state in the region. The Moro people, who are predominantly Muslim, have long sought self-determination and autonomy. The MILF has engaged in armed conflict with the Philippine government over the years, resulting in thousands of casualties and displacements. However, in recent years, the group has engaged in peace negotiations and signed a comprehensive peace agreement in 2014, which paved the way for the creation of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) in 2019.
